Hello guys! this week we have to talk about topics and main ideas, and I found interesting things about it. There is always a topic sentence that usually comes first, but that doesn't mean you are going to find it there all the time, it could be anywhere in the paragraph! We call it "the subject of the paragraph", and we can always recognize it because it gives us a more general information than the other sentences, actually, the other ones give us details about the topic.
To help us a little bit with this, we just have to ask ourselves one question; to identify the topic we could use something like: "what is this paragraph about?"
The main idea is the "key concept" that you can find in the paragraph. As soon as you can define the topic, to find the main idea just ask yourself "What general point does the author want to make about this topic?" and you will get it!

  2. Hello! Sorry I'm late. The main idea is important because is the sentence that summarizes all the paragraph, and the topic is important too, because just reading it, you already know what the text is about!

  4. I agree with Kelvin because the explanation gives us an idea about what she is talking. I believe that those aspects are really important in order to give coherence to the text
